The SHERLOCK test
How the SHERLOCK test works:
- Incubate extracted RNA (purified from patient sample) with isothermal amplification reaction
- Incubate reaction from step 1 with Cas13 protein, guide RNA, and reporter molecule
- Dip the test strip into reaction from step 2, and results should appear within five minutes
Existing Ways to Report Test Results
Current solutions include apps such as HEALTHLYNKED COVID-19 Tracker and websites such as the one provided by JHU that provide a map of the distribution of cases; other solutions are apps (COVID Symptom Study) that allow people to report SARS-CoV-2 cases about themselves or anyone they know.
- The latter solution is extremely flawed because it can account for a person more than once
- The validity of the information that individuals report is not always accurate because patients do not have to submit a physical report of their test.
- It does not allow people to contact local healthcare professionals or primary care physicians.
